Since 1996, we have consistently delivered programs that improve the lives of young people and communities in Karonga District.

KAYI was founded by local youth clubs and continues to be driven by community needs.

Founded in 1996, with a group of youth clubs who came together with the aim of addressing HIV/AIDS issues that are affecting the youth in Karonga District.

Our target Population 

Youth (Adolescent Girls and Young Women aged 10–24

Children and parents/caregivers

community leaders and structure (VDCs, ADCs, mother Groups)

Women and men in rural communities 

Persons Living with HIV and Marginalized group

Stitching a brighter future, how tailoring is empowering youths at kachila

At Kachila Youth Initiative (KAYI), volunteering goes beyond office duties.

One inspiring example is volunteer accountant, Herbert Chiwosi, who is also a skilled tailor using his talent to empower himself and support the community.

Herbert started tailoring in 2023 after being taught by a friend. What began as a simple skill has become a valuable source of personal growth and income generation.
