23 July, 2026 is a big day in Karonga as Senior Traditional Authority (STA) Karonga organised the celebration at his residence in Mwahimba village for 16 students selected to public University. The celebration united Chiefs, school directors, CSOs, parents, roles models, Media houses and  students. 

Apart from being the master of ceremony, Mr Matchona Ngwira, the Executive Director for Kachila Youth Initiative (KAYI), has been playing a big role of bringing youths in a safe environment which protects and secure their future through Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights advocacy initiatives conducted by KAYI. 

During the function, Mr Ngwira applauded STA Karonga for his passion in ensuring youth are educated which he said is a stepping stone towards achieving an empowered community for sustainable development. STA Karonga expressed his passion for education and emphasized that having an educated society is crucial for a successful leadership. He also said without education there is no development, hence the need for youth education in the community.

The Group Village Head, Mr Lloyd Mwajabala expressed his gratitude that Mwajabala which was once a baberbalic and nicknamed a "no go zone village" is now changed for good since children are being selected to university unlike in the past when no one prioritised education. This is a big inspiration to the village.

Estery Mkambala from Kafikisila village, who is selected to Mzuzu University to pursue Bachelors of fisheries and acquculture gave a speech on behalf of the 16 students who have been selected to various universities from the village. In her remarks Estery said that the celebration was a big motivation as it will motivate her fellow youth to work hard which will increase number of educated children in the village. 

" This is just the beginning of the celebrations,  big cerebrations are coming."

 "The next  cerebrations will be done in styles better than this one." "These are not just cerebrations, they are developmental events,  hence the need for more of them," STA Karonga emphasised
