Kachila Youth Initiative (KAYI) is a non-political, non-profit making and non-governmental organization that was formed in 1996 with a group of youth clubs who came together with the aim of addressing HIV/AIDS issues that are affecting the youth in Karonga District. The following are the youth clubs which formed Kachila Youth Initiative (Karonga Youth Association, KAYOBE, Chikolopa, Chimwemwe and Lalika) hence the name Kachila is an acronym from the Youth clubs who initiated the formation of the organization and abbreviated KAYI. Kachila through the help of district Youth office then registered with National Youth Council of Malawi under (1996) Act on 8th September 1998 and the Trustees Incorporation Act (CAP. 5:03) with the Minister of Justice and Constitution Affairs on 9th September 2013 registered with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA); and also registered with Council for Non-Governmental Organization of Malawi (CONGOMA).
Kachila Youth Initiative Vision is “Empowered community for sustainable development by 2028”.
Kachila Youth Initiative exists to build capacity of the communities through inclusive participatory approaches; advocacy; and community-led development initiatives that will ensure sustainable development.
